This beautiful hand carved ink well was likely made in the Black Forest region in the late 1800s. It is a ripe pear resting on a branch, surrounded by a cluster of 7 full leaves. The quality of carving is excellent, with a realistic shape and detail to both the pear and its leaves.
Size: 5 1/2" by 3 3/4" by 1 3/4"
This ink well is missing the glass insert, but otherwise is remarkably intact, showing very little wear for its age. There are some ink stains inside the ink well, and a tiny gap in the base of the ink reservoir. The stem on the pair may have been repaired at some point, as the wood shade and texture look slightly different from the rest of the pear.
